People’s Exhibit X · FILED DOCUMENT

TERMS OF SERVICE

Effective October 8, 2026

THE SERVICE

What this is.

People’s Exhibit X is a daily puzzle game operated by Inkwell General Store, LLC, a Maryland limited liability company. One real case from the historical record opens each day; players spell the answer using evidence from six classified exhibits. Today's case is always free to play, and Clearance, an optional subscription, opens more. These terms apply to the People’s Exhibit X web app and the iOS app; by using either, you agree to them. In the iOS app, Apple's standard End User License Agreement also applies.

ACCOUNTS

Your account.

You can play without signing in; your progress is kept under an anonymous identifier. If you sign in with Apple, your case history and streak follow your account to each of your devices, and so does Clearance bought while you are signed in. You can delete your account at any time in settings or on the account page of the People’s Exhibit X web app. Deleting your account permanently removes it and its current gameplay, entitlement and Apple purchase-linkage records, then signs you out; your payment provider keeps its own transaction records. Deletion cannot be undone. Deleting your account ends Clearance on it immediately. A subscription bought in the People’s Exhibit X web app for that account is cancelled at the same time: its unused paid time is lost and not refunded, except where the law requires it, and there are no further charges. To keep Clearance until the end of the period you have paid for, cancel the subscription instead and delete your account later. An App Store subscription belongs to your Apple Account: deleting your account does not cancel it, Apple keeps renewing it until you cancel it in your Apple Account settings, and the app can attach it to a new account, automatically on the same device or with Restore Purchases on another. Uninstalling the app does not cancel any subscription. Newsletter consent is separate: one-click unsubscribe stops messages, and deleting the newsletter contact requires a privacy request. Our Privacy Policy explains what we keep and for how long.

ACCEPTABLE USE

Acceptable use.

You may play People’s Exhibit X for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not attempt to extract, reproduce, or redistribute case content in bulk, reverse-engineer the answer selection system, automate gameplay, or use the service in any way that harms other players or the editorial integrity the game is built on. Sharing your result grid (the emoji share output) is explicitly encouraged: that's what it's for.

CLEARANCE

Optional premium access.

Clearance is an optional auto-renewing subscription that opens the full case archive, provides automatic streak insurance, and unlocks the complete record. It costs $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year in the US; the price shown before you buy is the one that applies. There is no free trial: payment is charged when you confirm the purchase, and the subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Clearance bought in the iOS app is billed by Apple to your Apple Account: turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge, manage or cancel it in your Apple Account settings, and request refunds from Apple. Canceling stops future renewals, and Clearance stays open until the end of the period you have paid for. We do not refund partial periods, except where the law requires it. Deleting your account ends Clearance immediately and cancels a subscription bought in the People’s Exhibit X web app, with no refund for unused time; it does not cancel an App Store subscription. Uninstalling the app cancels neither.

AS IS

No warranty.

People’s Exhibit X is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. We aim for the case content to be accurate and the service to be available daily, but we make no guarantees. Cases are curated under published editorial standards; they are not legal records or official documents.

LIMITATION

Limitation of liability.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Inkwell General Store, LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service or any inability to access it. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the greater of what you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim or $50.

CHILDREN

Not for people under 16.

People’s Exhibit X covers real criminal cases, including violent crimes, and is not directed to or intended for people under 16. If you are under 16, please do not use the service or provide any information through it.

IP

Intellectual property.

The case content, editorial framing, and interface of People’s Exhibit X are the intellectual property of Inkwell General Store, LLC. Underlying facts (the historical events described) are part of the public record. The emoji share grid you receive after each solve is yours to share freely; please don't reproduce the full case text or exhibit wording. The People’s Exhibit X name and fingerprint seal are pending trademark clearance.

UPDATES

Changes to these terms.

If these terms change materially, we will note it on this page with a new date. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

GOVERNING LAW

Governing law.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

DISPUTES

Disputes.

If a dispute arises, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it directly. Any dispute that can't be resolved that way will be handled by the state courts located in Montgomery County, Maryland, or the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, and you and we agree to that venue. Either of us may still bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. These terms are the entire agreement between you and us about the service.
