FREQUENTLY ASKED

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THE DAILY CASE

Everything you need to work the daily case. For anything deeper, each answer points to the full file.

  1. How often is there a new case?

One real case is declassified every day, and today's case is always free. A new case opens every day at 7 AM Eastern, and the countdown resets.

  2. How do I play?

Read the exhibits, six pieces of evidence with the hardest first, then spell the single keyword answer on the keyboard. A wrong guess locks in any correct letters and declassifies the next exhibit. You can re-read the briefing anytime in Settings.

  3. What if I get stuck?

Hint: Reveal a Letter locks in one correct letter once per puzzle without spending an exhibit. It becomes unavailable when only one letter remains. Next Exhibit declassifies the next clue and spends one of your six exhibits.

  4. How do streaks and the streak freeze work?

Play every day to build a streak. Everyone gets one streak freeze a month: it covers a single missed day so your chain survives, no Clearance needed. The freeze refills at the start of each month.

  5. What do the squares in a shared result mean?

A shared result shows how many clues you needed, never the answer, so it can't spoil the case. ⬛ marks a clue you spent; ⬜ marks a clue you did not need. Fewer black squares is a sharper solve, and a cold case shows all six spent.

  6. What is Clearance?

Clearance is the optional subscription. Today's case is always free; Clearance opens the full archive, makes streak insurance automatic, and unlocks your complete record.

  7. How are cases chosen and fact-checked?

Every case is a real one from the historical record, curated and fact-checked by the editorial team under published standards, including how we handle violent crime with care for victims.

  8. Why is People’s Exhibit X for ages 16 and up?

People’s Exhibit X is for ages 16 and up because it covers real criminal cases, including violence and other mature themes. Our editorial standards avoid graphic depictions and treat victims with respect. On iOS versions before 26, Apple displays a 17+ App Store rating under its older scale.

  9. How do I reset or delete my data?

Settings holds both. Reset clears your streak, stats, and settings on this device and our servers. Delete removes your current account and its UID-keyed gameplay, entitlement, and Apple purchase-linkage records. Your payment provider keeps its own transaction history on its books. Both actions are permanent. Deleting your account ends Clearance on it immediately, with no refund for unused time; to keep Clearance until the end of the period you paid for, cancel your subscription instead. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription.
